Wanda Lee Arbuckle

April 12, 1932 — December 10, 2018

Wanda Lee Arbuckle, 86, of Marshall, IL, died at 4:40 a.m. on Monday, December 10, 2018 in the comfort of her home. She was born April 12, 1932 in Hutsonville, IL, the daughter of Ovie Adams & Charlotte (Butler) Adams, both of whom preceded her in death. She married the love of her life, Edward “Sonny” Arbuckle on April 12, 1951, and they were married for 67 years before he preceded her in death on March 22, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her son, William “Bill” D. Arbuckle; by her brother, Bob Adams; by her sisters, Peg Boyll and Betty Lou Anderson; and by her brothers-in-law, William Jackson, Robert Boyll, Jesse Anderson, and Kenny White. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Kathy & Mike Malone (Marshall, IL); by her daughter-in-law, Vicky Arbuckle (Norman, OK); by her grandchildren, Sheena Hanson (Marshall, IL), Nicole Arbuckle (Tulsa, OK), Tawne & Fred Woods (Marshall, IL), Cachet & Richy Funkhouser (Marshall, IL), Dr. Sarah & Chad Roberts (Dallas, TX), and Dallas Volk (Marshall, IL); by her step-grandson, Mike Wisdom (Robinson, IL); and by her great-grandchildren, Gracie, Jaiden, Tanner, Jovie, DaLynn, Pruitt, and Sullivan; by her sisters, Joy White (Robinson, IL), Jodi Jackson (Marshall, IL), and Virginia Nole (Roosevelt, AZ); by her sister-in-law, Doris Adams (Huntsville, AL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Wanda grew up in the Hutsonville area and was a graduate of Hutsonville High School. Much of her early years were spent either working at Arbuckle’s Restaurant in West Union or at home raising Bill and Kathy. She and Ed also built and operated “Custard’s Last Stand”, a staple in the community for a number of years. After they closed shop, Wanda went to work for TRW, where she found employment for 25 years. She loved working with her hands and could often be found sewing or crafting items together at home. Her domain, however, was the kitchen. She was famous for her delicious creations, especially her pies, which were enjoyed by countless locals at various community events. She was a longtime member of the West Union American Legion Post #1130 Auxiliary, as well as the West Union Christian Church, where she and Ed attended before they retired to Florida for over 20 years. It was here that she found joy and contentment fishing alongside Ed, and these were some of the best times of her twilight years. Upon moving to Marshall in 1992, they joined the Marshall First Christian Church, where they had been members ever since. Wanda Arbuckle was a lovely, gentle soul whose kindness and unconditional love bear witness to the faith that has made her whole. A time of visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Gary Pruitt officiating. Burial will be in the Harrison Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Pinehaven Christian Children’s Ranch, a program near and dear to Wanda’s heart. Its aim is to provide a stable, controlled, secure environment in which young people can reach the potential that God has placed within them. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
