Wayne McDaniel, 82 of rural Palestine, IL, died at 3:10 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the Emergency Room of Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson. He was born August 28, 1926 in rural Palestine, the son of Valmore 'Holey' McDaniel and Nellie McCorkle McDaniel.Wayne was a heavy equipment operator, a member of the Operating Engineer’s Local #841; a member of the Palestine First Christian Church, and a 50 year member of the Palestine Masonic Lodge #849. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII on the U. S. S. Suffolk in the Pacific. He was also a member of the Hutsonville American Legion Post #742.He married Mildred Garrard on May 8, 1948 and she preceded him in death on October 14, 1991. He then married Ola Gwen Wakefield Sparks on February 13, 2001 and she survives. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Ken Willman, Donnellson, IL; his son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Sally McDaniel, rural Palestine; a step son and step daughter-in-law, Tom and Nona Sparks, Palestine; his step daughter and step-son-in-law, Debbie and Bruce Fulling, Indianapolis, IN; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren and 15 step great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Blanche McDaniel, rural Palestine, and Joe and Ruth McDaniel, rural Palestine; his sister and brother-in-law, Jennalee and Ab Nohe, Bargersville, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and a great grandson.Funeral services will be Monday, October 20th at 10:30 a.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine with Rev. Jerry McDaniel in charge of services. Burial is in the Palestine Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 19th. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. following visitation on Sunday by the Palestine Masonic Lodge #849. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Hutsonville American Legion Post #742. Memorials may be made to the Palestine First Christian Church, the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children, or to St. Jude’s Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
