Virginia "Anne" Lewis

April 7, 1939 — January 25, 2020

Virginia "Anne" Lewis, 80, of Oblong, IL, died January 25, 2020, at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong. She was born on April 7, 1939, in Robinson, IL, the daughter of Elzie Otis Hayes & Martha Virginia (Roberts) Hayes, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Raymond Alan "Louie" Lewis on March 24, 1956, and he preceded her in death on July 21, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Rose Snider and Callie "Peggy" Dunlap. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Alan & Jana Lewis (Palestine, IL), Gary & Jeanette Lewis (Robinson, IL), and Mick & Debbie Lewis (Oblong, IL); by her grandchildren, Travis & Melinda Lewis, Jay & Cyndi Lewis, Christopher & Nandini Lewis, Marcus Lewis, Jennifer Lewis & Nick Jeffries, Tristin Lewis; by her great-grandchildren, Kody, Keshav, Via, Selena, Samantha, Caleb, and Chloe; by her sisters, Jane & Gene Dart (Oblong, IL) and Jo & James Summersill (Flat Rock, IL); by her brothers-in-law, Clifford Dunlap (Robinson, IL) and Charles Snider (Flat Rock, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Anyone who knew Anne could attest to her exceptional talent with a needle and thread. She could sew anything, from clothes, to dolls, to quilts, and everything in between. Simply stated, there wasn't anything she couldn't stitch together. Her best work, however, was her family. Her love was the thread that continues to hold her family together. It was apparent that her heart belonged to her grandchildren, and they were the greatest joy in her life. They will remember "Grannie Annie" as a compassionate, caring soul who lived a life of faith. A longtime member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church, we have the assurance that, because she placed her trust in Christ, Anne's 80 years are just the beginning in light of everlasting life. A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31st at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will immediately follow and will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dwight McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in the Kirk Cemetery, rural Robinson. In memory of her work with the organization, memorial contributions may be made to "Quilts of Valor", with envelopes available at the funeral home.
