Vera Blankenbeker, 91, of Robinson, IL, passed away on July 2, 2022, in the comfort of her home. She was born on June 4, 1931, in Flat Rock, IL, the daughter of Orman "Babe" & Velma (Mathews) Highsmith, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers & sisters-in-law, Randall & Helen Highsmith and J.D. & Zella Highsmith, and four sisters & brothers-in-law, Irma Jean & Hubert Williams, Maxine & Bob Locke, Lena Mae & Frank Battershell, and Barbara Graham.
She married Jack Blankenbeker on May 29, 1953, and he survives. She is also survived by her sister & brother-in-law, Sharon & Fred Nieman; by her brother-in-law, George Graham; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A 1949 graduate of Robinson High School, Vera would go on to briefly work at Briggs Pottery in Robinson before becoming the executive secretary for Bradford Supply Company, a role she held for many, many years. Her time with Bradford led her to become involved with the Desk and Derrick Club, with whom she was a member for many years.
Co-workers and family alike could speak to the way she composed herself, as this dear soul was as prim and proper as they come. While she held herself to a high standard, she expected that same standard out of her many cherished nieces and nephews, who considered Vera & Jack to be a second set of parents. Though she was a very private person, those closest to her could attest to Vera's loving-kindness, undoubtedly born out of her relationship with Jesus. We who are left behind are assured that on Saturday, this longtime member of the Highland Avenue Baptist Church and beloved child of God was met with the words, "Well done!"
