Velma "Irene" McKay, 101, of Oviedo, FL, died on June 13, 2021, in the comfort of her daughter's home in Oviedo. She was born on April 23, 1920, in Robinson, IL, the thirteenth of fourteen children born to James & Mary Melissa (Smith) Mikeworth, both of whom preceded her in death. She married William Martin McKay on December 7, 1940, and he preceded her in death on May 25, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Nancy Diana Dynak and Patricia Irene McKay; by her brothers, Charles Mikeworth, Chester Mikeworth, Kenneth Mikeworth, Harold Mikeworth, Luther Mikeworth, Jim Mikeworth, and Donald Mikeworth; and by her sisters, Mae Becktell, Goldie Pleasant, Florence Scott, Beulah Crocker, Ethel Tennis, and Lois Robbins. She is survived by her children & their spouses, Linda Louise & Jack Ramsey (Venice, FL), Margaret Ann & Robert Schwarz (Indianapolis, IN), and Melissa Leigh & Thomas Fawcett (Oviedo, FL); by nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Her loved ones could all attest that Irene dedicated her life to her house and all those who called it "home". Her flower garden brought color and beauty to the home place by way of her green thumb. Irene was also a natural in the kitchen, as evidenced by her homemade fried chicken, made-from-scratch noodles, and brownies that, frankly, put box recipes to shame! It was evident that she found great fulfillment in filling others up. Her children and grandchildren, in particular, were the beneficiaries of Irene's talents and also her abundant love. That same love lives on in their hearts and will continue to serve as her legacy now and for generations to come. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will immediately follow and be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Dennis Steckley officiating. A live stream of her service will be available on Goodwine Funeral Homes' Facebook page or by going to https://www.goodwinefuneralhomes.com/live-stream/live-stream. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery. In honor of her love of children and her late husband's involvement with the organization, memorials may be made to "Shriners Hospitals for Children". Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
