Tom Newlin

Thomas E €œTom€ Newlin, 63, of Palestine, IL died at 8:53 a.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at his residence following several years of failing health. He was born August 25, 1947 in Effingham, IL, the son of Victor Maurice Newlin and Retha Colvin Newlin. He graduated Newton High School in 1964 and went on to get his master€™s degree from Southern Illinois University. He taught industrial arts in Ferdinand, IN, Maplewood, MO, and Robinson, IL. He was a member of the Worldwide Church of God in Terre Haute, IN.Tom married Mary Harper on September 1, 1979 and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2002. He then married Catherine Irene Van Winkle Waldroup on May 28, 2003 and she preceded him in death on August 31, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Newlin.He is survived by his parents, Victor & Retha Newlin (Elizabethtown, IL); three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marilyn K. & James Pum (Burlington, WI), Susan E. Newlin (Elizabethtown, IL), and Carol M. McCarty (Lake Egypt, IL); two brothers and a sister-in-law, Leonard R. & Mary Newlin (Peru, IL) and Charles R. Newlin (Freeburg, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, with Pastor Don Auxier officiating the service. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the World Wide Church of God of Terre Haute, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
