Todd R. Seaney, 56, of Hutsonville, IL, passed away on November 14, 2024, leaving a legacy of kindness, courage, and deep love for his community. Born on February 1, 1968, in Sullivan, IN, Todd was the cherished son of John & Rozella "Rozie" (Richards) Seaney, and he grew up in the small, close-knit town of Palestine, IL.
Todd graduated from Palestine High School in 1986, and though he earned an associate's degree in broadcasting from Vincennes University and worked for several years at WTAY radio, his true calling found him in an unexpected way. In 1993, he joined the Crawford County Sheriff's Office as a 911 dispatcher, becoming one of the first voices on the county's emergency lines when the 911 system was just starting. For 30 years, Todd was the calm and reassuring voice in the middle of the storm, guiding people through some of their darkest moments with compassion, intelligence, and a strength that made others feel safe. His colleagues and community members leaned on him for his wealth of knowledge and experience, and his dedication to keeping Crawford County safe was nothing short of remarkable. Todd retired on March 21, 2023, after decades of service, though his presence remains imprinted in the heart of the community.
But Todd's heart for service didn't stop with his career. In 1989, he began volunteering with the Hutsonville Fire Department and later joined the Crawford County Rescue Team in 1995. He served as a deputy coroner, carrying out his duties with a respect and compassion that comforted those around him. To know Todd was to know a man who believed in showing up for others, in big ways and small, wherever he was needed. It's a rare person who is so giving and reliable, yet that's how Todd was, and the community he loved so deeply will feel his absence forever.
One of Todd's greatest passions was his love of Studebakers. When he was just a boy, perhaps 12 or 14, his mother spotted a Studebaker truck for sale. They went to look at it, bought it, and that truck stayed with Todd all his life. His love for these classic cars grew from there, taking him to countless car shows where he delighted in sharing his knowledge, sparking joy in those around him. Todd's fascination with Studebakers was more than a hobby-it was a bridge, a way he connected and brought people together, always with that quiet, steady warmth.
Todd was a man who saw what needed to be done and did it, without a second thought. To his family, he was their rock, the one who was always there with a calm presence, the "brains of the operation" who offered wisdom, patience, and unconditional love. He married Anita (Sanders) on December 2, 1989, who she lovingly named "Sparky" and the two of them built a life filled with laughter, kindness, and the joy of raising a family. Together, they raised two children, Tiffany and Derek, and Todd took great pride in his role as "Papaw" to Harper, Emersyn, and Sawyer, who brought him endless joy and laughter.
Todd's family, friends, and all who knew him will remember him as a man with a gentle spirit, intelligent and selfless, empathetic and giving, independent and quietly strong. His acts of kindness were countless, his generosity boundless, and his love unwavering. Though his absence leaves a profound ache, his spirit lives on in the memories of those he leaves behind-his loving wife, Anita; his children & their spouses, Tiffany & Trenton Clapp and Derek & Nicole Seaney; his grandchildren, Harper, Emersyn, and Sawyer; his father, John; his sister & brother-in-law, Kelly & Richard Cheek; his mother-in-law, Marilyn Sanders; his brother-in-law, Brian Sanders, his Brazilian son, Valmar Alves, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Preceded in death by his mother, Rozella "Rozie" Seaney, and his grandparents, David & Mary Richards and Clarence & Ethel Seaney, his father-in-law, Morgan Sanders, Todd now rests in peace, reunited with those who went before him, and we take heart knowing that, by the grace of God, we'll see him again one sweet and glorious day! Until then beep, beep, beep I love you!
