Timothy Lee Lytle

October 10, 1957 — May 27, 2023

Timothy Lee Lytle passed away at his home in Robinson, IL, on May 27, 2023. Born on October 10, 1957, in Vincennes, IN, Tim grew up in Westport and Lawrenceville, IL, before embarking on a diverse and rewarding career. Over the years, he worked at various establishments, including Christy's Gas Station, Snap-On Tools, Pepsi-Cola, Bunker Hill Supply, Ledo Construction, and R&L Ready Mix. Tim also spent many years driving a semi before joining the City of Robinson Street Department, where he worked as a backhoe operator for almost 20 years, from August 1993 to April 2013.

Tim's interests and hobbies painted a vivid picture of a man who loved both indoor and outdoor activities. He was a natural handyman, possessing the uncanny ability to fix just about anything. More often than not, one could find him tinkering around in his shop with a "blue pop" in his hand and the sounds of classic rock music blaring from his radio (which has served to deter birds from nesting there for the past 15 years or so!) A car enthusiast at heart, he was particularly proud to have restored a '68 Camaro, a passion project that lasted a couple of fulfilling years. It should come as no surprise that he enjoyed auto racing and had his television tuned to watch NASCAR races throughout every season. This sports fan was also known to follow his beloved Cleveland Indians and Carolina Panthers as well. His passion for sports was met with the pride he felt toward his kids and grandkids at their various ball games. Though not one to shower them with praise in person, he never hesitated to brag about their achievements to others. He also kept his generosity well hidden. While he often displayed a tough exterior, it masked a giving and caring nature that led him to help innumerable people over the course of his life.

Tim's impact on the lives of his family and friends could never be forgotten, and his legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those whose lives he touched.

On September 4, 1982, Tim married the love of his life, Sheryl (Bowen) Wakefield. Together, they raised two cherished children, Timothy (Ashley) Lytle of Farmington, NM, and Jamie (Robert) Barbre of Robinson, IL. Tim was a proud grandfather to Olivia, Charlotte, Leonard, Austyn, and Bowen. His nephew, Terrance Lytle, also held a special place in his heart. Tim was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte Lytle, and his twin brother, Terry Lynn Lytle.

As Tim was not one to attend formal funerals, his celebration service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 12th, at his home (12595 N. 725th St. Robinson, IL 62454). Celebrant Curt Goodwine will officiate the service, and family and friends will be encouraged to share some of their favorite memories of this dear man. Following the service, everyone will be invited to stick around, drink a "blue pop", and continue celebrating his life.

Memorial contributions may be made to the "Crawford County Humane Society" or to the organization of the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the service or at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, which is overseeing service arrangements.
