Thomas C. Brashear

Thomas C. Brashear, 87 of Flat Rock, died at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the United Methodist Village, Lawrenceville. He was born January 9, 1922 in Palestine, the son of Graydon Garrard Brashear and Goldie Ruth Climer Brashear. He graduated from High School in 1940, was a member of the Oblong American Legion, and was a shop foreman for the County Highway Department. He served in the U.S. Army, 2nd Armored Division, during WWII, driving the first tank into Berlin. He drove a jeep for General Patton.Tom married Juanita Lloyd on May 16, 1948 and she survives. Also surviving are 4 sons, Thomas Michael Brashear and his friend Patricia Pethtel, Flat Rock, Randall Mark and Donna Brashear, Sapulpa, OK, Jerry C. and Peggy J. Brashear, Flat Rock, Roger K. and Christine Brashear, Flat Rock; 16 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 2 brothers and his sister-in-law, Russell Brashear, Lawrenceville, James and Mercedes Brashear, LaPort, IN; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Mac White, Palestine; Ruth Carter, Robinson; Joan and Jake Shonk, Porterville; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Brashear, Bridgeport, Doris Brashear, Hutsonville; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Graydon William Brashear and John Albert Brashear.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17th at South Union Church, rural Flat Rock, with Danny Dennis officiating. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery, Flat Rock. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on June 17th at the church and from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Flat Rock.
