Thelma M. Lowe

April 15, 1925 — March 20, 2020

Thelma M. Lowe, 94, of Robinson, IL, died Friday, March 20, 2020, at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL. She was born on April 15, 1925, in Oblong, IL, the daughter of John Elkins & Mary (Moomau) Elkins, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Robert Lowe on November 6, 1943, and he preceded her in death on October 30, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Pleasant, Irene Ryerson, Beatrice Goodwin, and Maxine Harrison and by her brother, John Elkins. She is survived by her sons & daughters-in-law, Richard "Rick" & Norma Lowe (Robinson, IL) and Stephen & Vicky Lowe (Evansville, IN); by 5 granddaughters & their spouses, Dee Dee & Bryan Barbee, Marcy & Nathan Adams, Kerie Ann & Glen Reddemann, Christy & Josh Gladsteen, Tiffany & Sam Wantland; by her grandson, Robert & Tanya Lowe; by her step-grandchildren, Matthew Baggett, Mindy Barclay, Holly Baggett, and Chris Baggett; by her great-grandchildren, Emilee & Garrett Rich, Sara & Steven Langley, Courtney Adams, Chloe Adams, Wesley Adams, Tyler Woods, Haley Lowe, Kadence Lowe, Brodie Gladsteen; by her great-great-grandchildren, Wyatt Rich, Kohen Langley; by her special friend, Paul Rosenberg; by her sisters-in-law, Geraldine Dix and Betty Dressback; by her special niece, Kandis Pinkstaff; as well as several other nieces and nephews. She grew up in the Hardinville area and attended school in a one-room schoolhouse. She found work for a number of local businesses, including Crawford Electronics and L.S. Heath & Sons before becoming a hairdresser, eventually opening up her own salon, Bobette's Beauty Shop. Away from work, she and Bob enjoyed boating at Sullivan Lake and other spots throughout the midwest. Time at home found her painting (pictures of barns being a particular favorite subject) and crocheting countless afghans and other items for her beloved family. They were her heart and soul and brought life to her living. They will remember their mom, grandma, and "grandma-great" as someone who loved with her whole heart. She couldn't hardly help but to dole out hugs every opportunity she got. Thelma was, by all accounts, an avid reader. Though she was known to enjoy reading her Amish books, her Bible got the most use over the course of her life. A woman of faith, she was an active and cherished member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. We have assurance that, because she placed her trust in Christ, her 94 years on earth was just the beginning in light of eternity. In light of the State of Illinois' "Shelter in Place" order, public services will be postponed and held at a later date. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to "Otterbein First United Methodist Church". Checks may be mailed to: Goodwine Funeral Homes 303 E Main St Robinson, IL 62454
