Terryl Ann Delong Postlewaite

December 13, 1933 — June 21, 2021

Terryl Ann DeLong Postlewaite, 87, of Palestine, IL, passed away on June 21, 2021, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. She was born December 13, 1933, at the Rush Presbyterian Hospital in Oak Park, IL, the daughter of Dr. Edward E. DeLong II & Dorothy (Marks) DeLong. The daughter of a military man, Terry grew up all over the United States before her family settled in the Waukegan, IL area. Upon graduating from Waukegan High School in 1951, she decided to further her education at the University of Illinois, where she became heavily involved with the Kappa Delta sorority. In addition to being the president of her house, she eventually became a board member and would diligently keep up with her sorority sisters for the rest of her life. After graduating from U of I's College of Education in 1955, she became a flight attendant for a brief period of time, establishing in her a love of travel and making many lifelong friends in the process. At U of I, she also found the love of her life. On June 9, 1956, she married Paul Postlewaite, and followed him to Germany, where she had the distinct privilege of teaching kindergarten at the Military Dependents School. Back home, she worked as a substitute teacher, but by all accounts, Terry dedicated herself to her house and all who called it "home". It was here that she was able to exercise her God-given green thumb, spending countless hours tending to her garden. This passion led her to exhibit many of her flowers at the county fair and took home the blue ribbon more often than she didn't. In addition to gardening, she also found great fulfillment in traveling. Over the years, Terry and Paul found themselves not only all over the U.S. (by way of RV), but all over the world as well. It was evident that Terry was a lover of people, as she kept in contact with nearly everyone she'd ever met! If you knew this dear woman, you better believe that you'd receive a card on your birthday or anniversary. Not only did she find great value in sending cards but in receiving them as well, to the point that she kept every card she had received. She loved socializing and relished spending time with her friends at the Current Topics Club. Here, she did her part to guide conversations by collecting newspaper clippings for members to discuss. She also kept clippings of her children and grandchildren to be laminated and included in her scrapbooks. Few things brought more life to her living than simply spending time with her family and church family. It would be impossible to talk about Terry's life without discussing her involvement with the Palestine First Presbyterian Church. Here, she not only taught the Junior High School class for many years but helped in countless spaghetti dinner fundraisers to ensure that her students could take ski trips to Paoli, IN. It is impossible to know just how deep an impact Terry Postlewaite left. Her life was like a light in the darkness, pointing us all to Jesus. It was evident that hers was a life partnered with her Savior, who has led her into life eternal. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Paul Postlewaite; by her three children & their spouses, Barbara & Roger Wiseman, Pamela & Tim Meier, and John & Teresa (Reinbold) Postlewaite; by her grandchildren, Tricia Murphy, Hank Wiseman, Jack Murphy, Quentin Postlewaite, Gavin Postlewaite, and Aiden Postlewaite; by her great-grandchild, Macklin Terry; by her brother, Edward DeLong; by her sister & brother-in-law, Linda & Rev. Gary Heedum; as well as a number of beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister-in-law, Anne DeLong. A time of visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 27th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 28th at the funeral home with Pastor Karen Russell & Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating.
