Ted Stone, 74, of Robinson, IL, died at 7:02 a.m. (EST) on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born February 2, 1945 in Ste. Marie, IL, the son of Hamer Stone and Martha (Faltemier) Stone. He married Margie McDaniel on September 29, 1967, and she preceded him in death on October 30, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Kraus; and by 3 brothers, Bill Stone, Edward “Bud” Stone, and Patrick “Pat” Stone. He is survived by his sons, Blake Stone (Joliet, IL) and Justin & wife Erin Stone (Chicago, IL); by his grandchildren, Kelsie Stone (Palatine, IL), Caeleigh Stone (Palatine, IL), Alice Stone (Chicago, IL), and Cora Stone (Chicago, IL); by his brother & sister-in-law, Ken & Jan Stone (TX); by his sister & brother-in-law, Mary & Gerry Weber (CA); as well as several nieces and nephews. Ted grew up in the Jasper County area and was a stand-out athlete at Newton High School, where he played football and qualified for state in hurdling. Upon graduating from Oblong High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country as an MP in Okinawa, Japan. Back home, he got on at Marathon, where he would work as a foreman over the next 40 years in the machine shop. Anyone who knew Ted could attest to his tireless work ethic; the man simply didn’t stop. He did everything with a sense of purpose, and the result was excellence. His drive brought out the best in those around him, namely, his sons, who will remember their father as a family man who sacrificed much of himself for the benefit of those he loved. Sacrifice, hard work, and the love of family are the collective legacy Ted leaves behind. Those fortunate enough to know him could never fully express the impact he’s made in their lives. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 27th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will immediately follow and will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. Pastor Brandon Boyd will officiate the services. In honor of the countless hours Ted and Margie spent at the Babe Ruth field, memorials may be made to the “Robinson City Parks & Recreation Department-Care of Babe Ruth Field Renovations”.
