Tammy Sue Montgomery, age 43, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 4th, 2009 after a five year battle with melanoma. She died peacefully at her home at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, with her family at her bedside.She was born on September 6, 1965, in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the daughter of Roger and Carol (Shank) Smith, who survive. Tammy was a 1983 graduate of Robinson High School in Robinson, Illinois. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bethtel Baptist Church In Warrensburg, Missouri.She is survived by her husband, Chief Master Sergeant Jeffrey D. Montgomery, whom she wed on August 31, 1984. This union was blessed with five sons, J.D. of Flat Rock, James, Jacob, Joshua, and Jeremiah all of Whiteman AFB, and a daughter, Mara, also of Whiteman AFB. Other survivors include her brother, Todd and Misty Smith, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Becky Montgomery, all of Flat Rock, and her sister-in-law, Joni and Jim Price of Sandborn, Indiana. Tammy is also survived by a nephew, two nieces, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a multitude of friends from military travels all over the world.Visitation will be at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Flat Rock Monday, June 8th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Tammy’s life will be held Tuesday, June 9th, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Ricard, of Warrensburg, Missouri, officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery, Flat Rock. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Cancer Institute or to Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, in Columbia, MO, % Jeff Montgomery, 702 Titan Loop, Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo 65305 with envelopes available at the First Missionary Baptist Church, Flat Rock.
