Susan Rodgers

March 7, 1945 — December 8, 2024

Susan Rodgers, 79, of Robinson, IL, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Robinson Rehab & Nursing, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on March 7, 1945, in Robinson, she was the daughter of Russell & Ruth (White) Holmes, both of whom preceded her in death, along with her infant sister, Rebecca Holmes. She spent her early years in Hutsonville, where small-town life nurtured her love for family and community. At age 11, her family moved to Robinson, the town she would call home for the rest of her life.

On October 2, 1965, Susan married Gary Rodgers, and together they built a home full of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. It was evident that Susan's greatest joy was her family. She devoted her life to raising her daughters, Amy (Mark) DeDoming and Tricia (Jay) Anderson, and delighting in her grandchildren, Avery DeDoming and Luke Anderson, and her great-grandson, Jasper DeDoming.

Susan's love for her children extended far beyond the walls of her home. She was always present, whether as a scorekeeper for softball games, a van driver for traveling teams, or a Bluebirds and Campfire leader. Her encouragement was a constant—whether in the stands or in their lives. A creative spirit, Susan had a remarkable ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. Her green thumb brought her gardens to life, her artistic eye turned simple crafts into treasures, and her love for learning made her a master of any new challenge she took on. She worked at Sports World and Boot Box/Fashion and Footwear, but her most important work was in the lives she touched through her quiet acts of kindness and her vibrant personality.

A woman of faith, Susan was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, where she found strength and solace for many years. She brought that same faith to her family and did everything she could to guide them with love and wisdom. In the end, it could be said that Susan Rodgers' life was a garden of love, tended with care and adorned with beauty. Though her earthly chapter has ended, the seeds she planted will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to share in her story until, by the grace of God, we see her again.
