Susan J. Bollinger, 76, of Robinson, IL, passed away on November 18, 2022, at Heart to Heart Hospice in Evansville, IN. She was born November 21, 1945, in Robinson, the daughter of Johnnie & Kathaleen (Sligar) Padgett, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Richard "Dick" Bollinger on March 31, 1964, and he preceded her in death on October 31, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Bollinger; and by her brother, Johnnie Elmore Padgett (in infancy).
She is survived by her daughter, Carla Bollinger (Tell City, IN); her granddaughter, Rebecca & Eric Martin (Tell City, IN); her great-grandchildren, Camren and Sawyer; and by her sister-in-law, Jayne Bollinger Roads (Indianapolis, IN).
Susan grew up in the Hutsonville, IL area and was a 1963 graduate of Hutsonville High School. The next several years found her tending to her house and those who called it "home". However, in 1979, she entered the workforce as a pharmacy technician for Hooks Drug Store, which eventually turned into a CVS. It was from here she retired in 1998, but that retirement was short-lived, as she found part-time work with Bertram's Pharmacy in 1999, a job she would hold for the rest of her life.
Time away from work often found her out at a ballgame. Her husband, Dick, was the longtime manager for the Robinson American Legion Baseball Team and was also a volunteer baseball coach for Lincoln Trail College, and by his side through it all was Susan! Even after his passing, she made her way to the ballpark nearly every day of the season, rooting on her friends' kids and grandkids. It wasn't just baseball she enjoyed, but sports in general. That being said, LTC athletics held a special place in her heart. The Statesmen's biggest fan, she always sat in the front row at home basketball games and was an avid supporter by way of the LTC Booster Club. She was also an active member of the Robinson VFW Post #4549 Auxiliary and was a former member of the American Legion Post #69 Auxiliary, where she held many offices through the years.
It was evident that Susan valued her community. For a time, she served as a precinct committeeman and would go on to serve as an election judge for many years as well. While her community held a significant place in her life, anyone who knew Susan could attest that her family was the most important thing to her. They could speak to the fact that no one could love more fiercely than this dear woman. But that was just her: fierce. We saw this on display in her love, yes, but also in her opinions and her convictions. One conviction she held fast to, especially in the twilight years of her life, was that Jesus is Lord. She considered herself part of the Outer West Market Church of Christ family and was a regular at their various events and bible studies. We are thankful that, by the grace of God, her faith has been made sight!
