Sue Dappert, 77, of Robinson, IL, passed away January 24, 2022, in the comfort of her home. She was born September 9, 1944, at the "First Robinson Savings Bank" (where the old Brooks Hospital used to stand.) She was an alumnus of Netwon High School, Eastern Illinois University, and Millikin University, where she earned a master's degree in education. The early part of her teaching days found Sue at Flat Rock Grade School, where she proved to be a capable and beloved English and band teacher. Eventually, she moved on to teach band at Lincoln Grade School in Robinson, where she finished her 33-year career, but not before sowing a passion for music in the hearts of her countless students. It was clear that making music made Sue's soul come alive. She was able to make a beautiful sound with just about any instrument put in front of her, but her talents didn't stop there. Sue was the proud owner of a green thumb, as evidenced by her beautiful flower garden. In addition to her flowers, she also cared for her yard, relishing the time spent on top of their John Deere lawnmower. Relationships were the cornerstone of Sue's 77 years, and few things brought more life to her living than spending time with those she loved (especially if it meant going out to eat!) She was able to build relationships through her involvement with the Robinson Red Hatters, with whom she was a member for nearly 20 years. She was also a member of the Retired Teacher's Association. Though Sue Dappert's song has ended, we are thankful that her melody lingers on in the hearts of her friends and her family: her husband of 57 years, John Dappert; her daughter, Deana Dappert; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Freddie & Mary (Fowler) Smith, and her little brother, Clinton Smith. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 28th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will immediately follow and be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, with Pastor Cortez Merrell officiating. Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the "Robinson Band Booster", with envelopes available at the funeral home.
