Steven Goff

Steven Goff, 66, of Palestine, IL, passed away on March 3, 2022, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. He was born July 27, 1955, in Robinson, IL, the son of David & Freda (Harris) Goff. He grew up in Palestine and worked for a number of local businesses, including Monroe's Melon Mart and Briggs Pottery, but he was born to be a bartender! He was a staple behind the bar at the Saratoga and the Eagles, where he was a longtime member. Here, he was also known to shoot pool and even won several poker tournaments after years of honing his craft. An avid outdoorsman, Steve enjoyed mushroom hunting when he was able, and fishing also provided him with countless hours of quiet satisfaction. Time at home found him glued to the TV, following the Bears during football season, Cubs during baseball season, and Dale Earnhardt during racing season.

By all accounts, Steve was a goofy, ornery guy! He loved to kid and joke around with his friends and family. They could all attest to the fact that he was a lover of people, and would, without thought of self, give the shirt off his back for anyone in need. The love he so selflessly gave lives on as his lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew him.

He is survived by his whole world, his daughter & son-in-law, Mary & Chris Michael (Corydon, IA); by his grandchildren, Alleria and Keanu Michael; by his brother, David A. Goff (Palestine, IL); by his niece, Amanda Goff (Palestine, IL); as well as many other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A time of visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Cremation will follow, and burial will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to his memorial fund, with checks made payable to "Goodwine Funeral Homes".
