Our family lost a very special man Steve Batman, on July 19, 2021. Steven Dee Batman, 77, passed away at his home in Sullivan, IN. Steve was born on February 24, 1944, in Robinson, IL, the son of Maurice and Vada Stanley Batman, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by Judy Neiwert-Batman whom he married on May 29, 1964, and this began their 57 years of adventures and memories. He is also survived by his brother Stan (Pam) Batman, sister Martha Jean Hunt, his children Shawni (Mark) Young, Stephanie Batman-Eck, and Patrick (Melissa) Batman, He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Amanda Neeley, Lacey (Chuck) Myers, Kristen (Jacob) Deckard, Jordon (Dakoda) Abney, Madison Criss, Blade Batman, Layla Hassar, Khalid Hassar, Guili Batman, Jaxon Batman, and 10 great-grandchildren. Steve grew up on the family farm west of Robinson and attended Bible Chapel Church west of Robinson. He was a member of Boy Scouts and 4-H. He worked at Robinson IGA during his last 2 high school years. He graduated from Robinson High School in 1962. Three days after graduation he joined the United States Air Force for 4 years and received his honorable discharge in 1966. He was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, and Guam Air Force Base, Guam. He loved planes and was an air flight mechanic accompanying and refueling B52's while in flight. After discharge he returned to Robinson and worked as Deputy Sheriff for several months, then Marathon Refinery for 30 years, retiring in 2000. Steve also had the privilege of getting to work at the Marathon Refinery in Indianapolis, and special projects at the Marathon Refinery in Detroit. Steve felt a call to serve the Lord and entered into the Merom School of Ministry. He was ordained to the Christian Ministry In October 1984 and served at Oak Grove Federated Church, Palestine, IL, from 1984 to 1990, where he retains his membership. Steve loved his time getting to pastor the church, the people, and the celebratory events. He loved to visit and the ladies always saw to it he got Spanish Cream Pie. Steve also joined the American Legion in Sullivan, IN, and served a term as Commander, and also loved calling Bingo there. After retiring Steve started a business, "Bat-Mobile Power Wash" and had fun washing houses, enlisting Judy, kids, and grandkids to help him out. This was a time he also got to socialize and visit with people. He had a very contagious laugh. Steve loved car racing and in 1972 he built a stock car to race at the Stoy Racetrack. He had a lot of fun working on his car, sometimes coming in from the garage at 2 o'clock in the morning, and back up at 6a again out to the garage. Steve had a love for the outdoors. Every other summer the truck camper headed for Idaho to see Judy's family. The KOA campgrounds were strung along I-70 and I-80 during those days, so campouts along the way to Idaho were taken, with trips to the Tetons, Yellowstone, and Jackson, WY when the children were little. His greatest joy was being a grandfather and great grandfather. He and Judy camped at Heritage Lake in Coatesville, IN where he enjoyed boating and tubing with the kids and grandkids, also at Sullivan Lake, and if they were tubing and giving him signals that they were bored they got a "good" ride. It was fun sitting around the campfire and sharing stories. We want to give a very special thank you to Cobblestone Crossings Health Campus, Amedysis Home Health, Allison, Carol, Dan, Tina, Cara and Natalie, and Hospice Terrisita, Cortney, Jamie, Craig, and Ken.
