Steven A. Knight, 47, of Oblong, IL, passed away on August 12, 2024 at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong. His journey through life was one of quiet exploration, punctuated by a deep love for the simple, enduring pleasures of the world around him.
Born on June 26, 1977 in Robinson, IL, to Guy James Knight & Kate (McQueen) Knight, Steve grew up with a sense of curiosity and a love for the land that surrounded him. His professional life was as varied as the seasons. After wrapping up his tenure at Oblong High School, he worked in many different roles throughout the area, lending a hand where it was needed. His grandfather's farm, with its rolling fields and sturdy John Deere tractors, was a place of learning and hard work. Steve's connection to the land was a testament to the generations before him, who had cultivated not just crops, but a legacy of resilience and respect for the earth. In recent years, he found contentment in doing odd jobs for neighbors and friends. Though he never quite found a singular path, Steve walked many, each one contributing to the tapestry of his life.
Those who knew him best could attest that the outdoors called to him like an old friend. Steve spent countless hours camping and hiking, with Sam Parr and the Garden of the Gods each holding a special place in his heart. The companionship of his two beloved German Shepherds, Chara and Zaire, brought him immense joy until they passed, leaving memories that Steve cherished deeply. His fascination with the past was more than a passing interest. His father, an archaeologist, took him on a couple of surveys, where Steve found wonder in the stories that the earth revealed. Those moments spent with his father in the field were some of the most treasured of his life, igniting a curiosity that stayed with him. Music was a passion for him as well. The melodies of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and other classic rock icons filled his days, providing a rhythm that matched the cadence of his own spirit. In those songs, Steve found expression, comfort, and a connection to a time when music was raw, honest, and real.
Steve Knight's life was a testament to the beauty found in simplicity - whether through the quiet of a forest trail, the echoes of distorted guitars, or the steadfast loyalty of his four-legged companions. In the end, it could be said that he walked his own winding and unconventional path, embracing the world with an open heart and a curious mind.
He leaves behind his mother, Kate Knight (Oblong, IL); his brothers, James Knight and wife Claire (Brooklin, ME), and Guy "Bub" Knight (Oblong, IL); and his niece, Ezri Knight (Brooklin, ME). He is also remembered by his aunts and uncles, Debbie & Doug Cooley (Robinson, IL) and John & Linda McQueen (Robinson, IL). He was preceded in death by his father, Guy Knight; his grandparents, Robert & Norma McQueen, and James & Velda Knight; and his uncles, Mike Knight and Greg Knight.
Steve is to be cremated without a public service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is entrusted with these arrangements. Memorials may be made to his memorial fund, with checks made payable to "Goodwine Funeral Homes".
