Shirley J. €œDaisy€ Boyd, 75, of Fairbanks, Indiana, passed away October 23, 2011 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital after a courageous battle against a prolonged illness. Daisy was born to Sylvia and Eldon Skaggs of Stoy, Illinois, on November 4, 1935. Daisy married Norman L. Boyd in 1955, and together they raised six children in rural Hutsonville, Illinois. Daisy later lived in Palestine, Illinois for a number of years before moving to Fairbanks, Indiana.Daisy attended Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, Illinois, where she earned an Associates of Arts Degree and an Associates of Science Degree and earned her Practical Nursing Certificate, graduating with high honors. Nursing was a career which she loved. For many years she was a nurse at Schmidt Clinic in Robinson, Illinois, and later worked as a private duty nurse in the Crawford County area. Daisy had a passion for learning, a love for people, and her interests were diverse and many. She loved science of any kind, from astronomy to zoology, and taught her children, grandchildren and many others to appreciate and explore the wonderful world around them. She also was a talented actress and singer, making regular appearances on the LTC stage during the 1970€™s and €˜80€™s. Her favorite role was as Mama Rose in the musical production €œGypsy.€ She was honored to be the first female member of the Palestine Lion€™s Club. Daisy loved collecting all sorts of things, but most of all she loved to collect friends wherever she went. Many people who crossed her path were warmed and encouraged by her kind heart and sympathetic ear.Daisy is survived by her children: Cathy Daugherty (Fairbanks, IN); Kevin & Michelle Boyd (Terre Haute, IN); Chris & Donna Boyd (Hutsonville, IL); Karen Boyd (Hutsonville, IL); Keith & Theresa Boyd (Hutsonville, IL); Craig & Diana Boyd (St. Mary€™s, GA); 15 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and An Roy (Robinson, IL) ' one of her many €œadopted€ children. She is also survived by three sisters: Annie May Calvert (Indianapolis, IN); Linnie York (Logansport, IN); and Sharon Skaggs (Stoy, IL); one brother, Phillip & Carole Skaggs (Red Beach, New Zealand); and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins. Daisy was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Douglas Skaggs. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 26th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, October 27th at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Bailiff Cemetery, West York, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Lincoln Trail College Performing Arts Department or St. Jude€™s Children€™s Hospital, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
