Sarah Belle Shidler, 77, of Robinson, IL, died peacefully in the comfort of her home on December 25, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was born June 11, 1943, outside of Hardinville, IL, the daughter of George & Ellen E. (Spyker) Dunlap, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Robert L. “Bob” Shidler on December 22, 1962, and he preceded her in death on May 21, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, John Dunlap and George Dunlap; and by her sisters, Mary Ann Cox and Nancy Dunlap. She is survived by her daughters & sons-in-law, Linda Shidler & Glenn Lattz (Robinson, IL), Jame & Brian McCall (Traverse City, MI), and Christy & Eric Stewart (Robinson, IL); by eight grandchildren, Cameron Lattz (Minneapolis, MN), Brooke Shidler-Lattz (Cleveland, OH), Alivia & Samuel Barnsley (Traverse City, MI), Eliza McCall (Traverse City, MI), Andrew McCall (Traverse City, MI), Charlee Stewart (Robinson, IL), Reese Stewart (Robinson, IL) and Lyla Stewart (Robinson, IL); by her great-grandson, Oliver Barnsley; by her brothers & sisters-in-law, James & Sandy Dunlap (Robinson, IL), Charles Dunlap (Chesteron, IN), and Judy Dunlap (Benzonia, MI); by her sisters & brother-in-law, Doris LaBuda (St. John, IN), Naomi & Brian Leatherwood (Indianapolis, IN), and Janice Shelton (Valparaiso, IN); as well as several nieces and nephews. By all accounts, Sarah Shidler was a woman who lived with unyielding drive and stern resilience. Her hard-working nature was evident not only at Robinson Transformer, where she worked as a supervisor for over 40 years, but at home in her yard as well. Few things brought more life to her living than spending time outdoors, especially time in her garden. She and Bob saw much of God's creation in their many travels with their good friends, Ron & Julie Seals, as well. They enjoyed trips to Missouri, Michigan, Tennessee, and Florida, with Sarah often riding on the back of his motorcycle. Back home, she could often be found with a needle and thread in hand, having stitched together countless quilts and dolls for her beloved family and friends throughout her 77 years. Those she leaves behind will remember Sarah as a disciplined, fiercely independent soul who was driven by her beliefs. She didn't just attend Hardinville Christian Church for over 50 years, but she made her faith the bedrock off of which she built the rest of her life; a life that, by the grace of God, will never end. Due to the newly-increased public safety measures being enforced by the State of Illinois, funeral services will be private, and a celebration of Sarah's life will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest in the Hardinville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the "Smile Train", an international children’s charity with a sustainable approach to a single, solvable problem: cleft lip and palate.
