Santiago I. Calip, Sr.

Santiago I. Calip, Sr., 81 of Palestine, IL, died at 3:03 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson. He was born July 25, 1927 in Santiago Ilocos Sur, Philippines, the son of Felipe A. Calip and Marina Imperial Calip. Santiago had 15 years of education at the University of Manila. He attended Officers Military Service School, served in the Philippine Navy and Army, served on the U. S. Advisory Group and U. S. National Defense for the United States, and was a contractor for the U. S. Navy. He was an Inspector and Supervisor in Saigon, South Vietnam. He worked for the Mountain Ltd. Telephone Company and finished his career with Verizon. Santiago was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Edgard Cosca Calip; and his brother, Isabelo Imperial Calip.Santiago was married to Ann Richardson. He is survived by 3 sons, Santiago “Cris” Calip, Jr, Levi W. Richardson, and Frank Richardson, all of Palestine; his daughter and son-in-law, Jaimie M. and Mark Tull, Palestine; 5 children in the Philipines, Adolfo Cosca Calip, Patricia Cosca Calip, Perpetual Cosca Calip, Jane Cosca Calip, and Jose Felipe Cosca Calip; 4 grandchildren in the U. S.; his sisters and brothers, Araceli Calip, Dolores Reyes, Beatriz I. Calip, Rosalia Calip-Malbog all of the Philipines; and Norma Calip-Pavarillo, Chicago.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Rev. Bill Overmann officiating. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Palestine. Memorials may be made to the Santiago I. Calip Memorial Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
