Ruth Odessa Holmes

Ruth Odessa Holmes, 99, of Robinson, IL, died at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Cotillion Ridge Nursing Center. She was born May 19, 1909 in Hardinville, IL, the daughter of Alonzo White and Annie Adams White. She received a BA at EIU and a Masters in Education at Indiana State. She was a teacher in the Crawford County schools for 33 1/3 years of which she taught the first grade for over 20 years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, AAUW, Tuesday Literary Club, First United Methodist Church, Robinson, Silver Link Class and she loved to knit. She was also an avid softball fan.She married Russell David Holmes April 26, 1941 and he preceded her in death on February 14, 1958. She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Rebecca Sue Holmes; 2 brothers, William White and Carroll White.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Gary Rodgers, Robinson; 2 granddaughters and their husbands, Amy and Mark DeDoming, Robinson, Tricia and Jay Anderson, Robinson; 1 great grandchild, Avery L. DeDoming; her brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Velma White, Evansville, IN; and several nieces and nephews.Committal of ashes will be at the Richart Cemetery at a later date. A life celebration ceremony will be held following the committal at the family farm. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson with Pastor Ansel Atwood officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday preceding the services.
