Russell Jones, 74, of Robinson, IL, died at 7:44 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Effingham, IL, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born September 5, 1944 in Palestine, IL, the son of Gordon & Twila (Wheat) Jones, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Harold Jones. He is survived by his five children & their spouses, Hope & Brad Levi (Redondo Beach, CA), Paul & Kendra Jones (Robinson, IL), Andy & Misty Jones (Sweetwater, TN), David & Delores Jones (Summerville, SC), Tina & Jeremiah Goss (Effingham, IL); by 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and by his brother, Jerald Jones (Robinson, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Russell grew up in the Robinson area and was a 1963 graduate of Robinson High School. Out of school, he went to work for Tempco Products in Robinson, where he worked for over 40 years before retiring as floor supervisor in 2009. Away from work, Russell’s life revolved around sports. Sundays often found him watching football or NASCAR, and he was, by all accounts, an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. As much as he loved his Cards, he loved watching his kids and grandkids more. He rarely missed their various sporting events and was a constant source of encouragement, be that as a coach, a bookkeeper, or a fan. He was a longtime and active member of the Robinson Bowling League and was also a member of the Robinson Moose and Masonic Lodges. Russell Jones was a loving and caring son, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family continues to carry on his legacy, and he will live on in their hearts for as long as they live. Private family services have been held, with the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson in charge of arrangements.
