Rudy D Mckinley

September 5, 1936 — July 22, 2019

Rudy D. McKinley, 82, of Palestine, IL, died at 9:40 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2019 at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville. He was born September 5, 1936 in Sullivan, IN, the son of Charles McKinley & Hallie (Pirtle) McKinley, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Shannon Wallace on May 29, 1971, and he took wonderful care of her for nearly 44 years before she preceded him in death on February 7, 2015. He is survived by his children & their spouses, Keith David & Kimberly McKinley (Doans, IN), Dale & Debra K. Harris (Terre Haute, IN), Melinda Eveland & partner Timothy Stuckey (Hutsonville, IL), and Stephen McKinley (Palestine, IL); by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-greatgrandchildren; by his sisters, Sally Lucas (Terre Haute, IN) and Mitzi & John Sappington (Dennison, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Rudy grew up in Sullivan County and was a graduate of Graysville High School. Although he wore many hatsover the course of his life, he was especially proud of his years as a transport driver for Marathon Petroleum. When he wasn’t on the road, chances were, he was outside. An outdoorsman through and through, he found great enjoyment in hunting, fishing, and camping. He was also quite the grill master and was well-known for his infamous “Rudy Burgers”. Though he found enjoyment outdoors, he found his purpose at home. He was a dedicated caregiver to his family and took the roles of husband, father, grandfather, and brother very seriously. All those who knew and loved him will remember Rudy as a hard-working, independent soul; a living, breathing example of how to live with integrity and tenacity of spirit. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 26th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Wright officiatingthe service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the “Wounded Warrior Project” or to the “IU Health Physicians Transplant Center”, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
