Roy Harrison "Harry" Rich, 95, of rural Robinson, IL, passed away on February 28, 2022, at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. He was born on February 21, 1927, the son of Loy Rich, Sr. & Bertha Elizabeth (Bradberry) Rich, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Phyllis Jean Sager on September 25, 1948, and they enjoyed 70 years of marriage before her passing on May 21, 2019. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Staley, Elsie Wesley, and Betty Phillippee, and by his brothers, Loy Rich, Jr. and Leo Rich.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda & Jim Webster and Karan & Herb Osborn; two grandchildren, Mike Rich and Miranda & Dusty Harrison; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, Elizabeth & Jameson Parker and Whitney & Blake Hale; four step-great-grandchildren; his brother & sister-in-law, Warren & Kay Rich; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He grew up in rural Flat Rock, where he worked on the family farm before answering his country's call. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and did his part to bring peace to the European theatre at the end of WWII. Back home, he went to work for L.S. Heath & Sons, where he would work over the next 43 years of his life before retiring from the maintenance department in 1989. Most of Harry's free time found him outdoors. An avid quail hunter, he was also well-acquainted with the peace that comes with a rod and reel in hand.
Those he leaves behind will forever cherish this hard-working character and are humbled by the tenacity of spirit that allowed Harry Rich to give of himself for the sake of his country and his family.
