Rosalee Culp, 86, of Palestine, IL, closed her eyes on this earth, in the comfort of her home, and opened them in the arms of the Lord in Heaven at 3:46 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2019. She was born August 26, 1932, in Robinson, IL, the daughter of William Smith and Edna (McCormick) Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. On April 9,1948, she married Lyle Culp, Sr. who preceded her in death on January 2, 1999. She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Ruby Burns, Velma June Smith, Mary Ramsey, Dalena Brush and Donna Webber; by one brother, Paul Smith; her son-in-law Rev. James Hobbs and a great-great grandson Wesley Kendall at birth. She is survived by four daughters & sons-in-law, DeEtta Hobbs (Robinson IL), Rita & Ray Stephens (Robinson, IL), Sue & Eddie Sandlin (Robinson, IL), and Dian & John Bennett (Palestine, IL); by three sons & daughters-in-law, Reverend Lyle, Jr. & Eileen Culp (Owosso, MI), Richard Culp (West Union, IL), David & Kim Culp (Kokomo, IN). She is also survived by two sisters & brother-in-law, Neoma & Dave Dwyer (Braceville, IL), Ken & Margaret Lawrence (Thompsonville, IL); by two brothers, Howard Smith (Terre Haute, IN), David & Rhoda Smith (Marshall, IL). She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Cleon Culp (Willow Hill), Leland Culp (Robinson, IL), and Dee Culp (Robinson, IL); and by her sisters-in-law, Ava Seaney (Robinson, IL), Mary Wood (Morganfield, KY), and Fran & Mike Dorn (Robinson, IL). Her eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren (with one on the way) also survive, as do several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as her beloved dog, Muffin. Rosalee grew up in and around Crawford County. She would dedicate her life to tending for her home and all those within it. Her family remembers a strong-willed but caring woman who was generous with both her time and unyielding support. Although she was a committed housewife, she still made time to sell Avon, which she did throughout Crawford County for eighteen years. As the years progressed, and she became a grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother several times over, much of the affection she had for her husband and children overflowed into all of them. Needless to say, her family was a great source of joy in her life, as were painting, crocheting, and sewing dolls. Music also played a key role in her life. If she wasn't playing guitar at home, she was singing at church. She attended Dayspring Church in Trimble. Rosalee gave her life over to Christ years ago, and is now experiencing His fullness alongside all those who have gone before her in faith. We who are left behind have the assurance that she is more alive today than she ever was before. We are sure she is rejoicing with her husband while he holds baby Wesley and stands beside her son-in-law Reverend Jim Hobbs and all of her other relatives. A time of visitation will be held from 1:30-3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21st at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will immediately follow and will be held at the funeral home with Reverend Lyle Culp, Jr. officiating and Reverend Lyle Culp, III assisting. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association or to the National Kidney Foundation, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
