Ronald Dee GarrardRonald Dee Garrard, 55, of Panama City, FL, formerly of Crawford County, IL, died Sunday, August 16, 2009 at his residence. He was born January 28, 1954 in Palestine, IL, the son of Walter Leigh Garrard and Elsie Jane McIntosh Garrard. He retired from the Air Force after 9 years of service. Ron was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a past member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69 and the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549. Ron is survived by his mother and step-father, Elsie Jane and Leroy Smith, West York; his 2 daughters and son-in-law, Rhonda Garrard Young and Lt. Russ Young, Fayetteville, NC and Jane Garrard, Panama city, FL; and 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry Wayne and Jeanne Garrard, Oblong, and Steve and Connie Ames, Oblong. Through his life he doted on his 7 grandchildren; Jessica Birdwell, Madison Garrard, Silas Drummond, William (T. J.) Birdwell, Levi Young, Alex Young, and Katie Young.He was preceded in death by his father; and his brother Michael Garrard.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson with Rev. Don Russell officiating. Burial will be in the Kirk Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the combined units of the AmVets Post #33, V. F. W. Post #4549, American Legion Post #69 and American Legion Post #132. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 21st at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the V. F. W. Post #4549 Transportation Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
