Roger Smith, 75, of Pinkstaff, IL, died on October 25, 2021, in the comfort of his home. Roger was born on December 29, 1945, in Honey Creek Township, the son of Cecil & Norma (Matheny) Smith, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Kenny Smith, Timmy Smith and Bobby Smith. He married Brenda Gray on November 14, 1998, and she survives. He is also survived by his 3 stepsons, 7 step grandchildren and 3 great step grandchildren; by his brother, Ronald Smith & DiAnna McNair; by his sister, Roxann & Barry Cole; as well as several nieces & nephews. Roger grew up in the Robinson area and proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Back home, he started work at Briggs Pottery and would work there for 30 years. He would then go to work as a correctional officer for Wabash Valley Prison. Away from work, he found enjoyment in the outdoors, whether it was fishing or hunting. He also didn't mind playing some golf in his spare time. What brought him true joy was spending time with his family and telling stories. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 29th, at the Oak Grove Cemetery in rural Palestine, with Ronnie Crawford officiating the service. Military rites will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132.The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "VFW Transportation Fund", with envelopes available at the cemetery.
