Robert L. Eveland

Robert L. Eveland, 82 of Atwood, IL, formerly of Palestine, IL, died at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2010. He was born May 24, 1927 in Robinson, IL, the son of Charles Eveland and Isabelle Lawhead Eveland. He was a 58 year member of the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local Union #157, Terre Haute, IN. He was a member of the Palestine Masonic Lodge #849 and the Robinson American Legion Post #69. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1944 through 1948 and the U. S. Army from 1948 through 1951.Bob married Mary Anna Nethery on October 23, 1948 and she preceded him in death on September 7, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents; 2 sons, Peter and Erin Eveland; 5 brothers, Charles, David, Harvey, Roscoe and Harlan Eveland; and 5 sisters, Mary, Sylvia, Margaret, Katherine, and Flossie.He is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas C. and Diana Eveland, Tuscola, Robert L. and Kathy Eveland, Stafford, VA; 5 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.There will be cremation with a graveside service held at a later date at the Palestine Cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home, Palestine is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to an organization of the donor’s choice with envelopes available at the funeral home.
