Robert L. "Bob" Davis

October 4, 1922 — October 21, 2023

Robert L. "Bob" Davis, 101, of Robinson, IL, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2023. Born on October 4, 1922, he was a beacon of adventure and bravery from his earliest days, particularly during his service in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a member of the 607th Tank Destroyer Battalion, Company B, earning a Silver Star for gallantry in action in the European Theater, demonstrating remarkable courage that would come to define his character. Upon his return from the war, Bob embarked on a successful career as an operator on the Buckeye Pipeline. His dedication saw him provide 33 years of service before retiring in 1975. His retirement was but a brief pause, as he returned to the workforce for an additional eight years with the Crawford County Highway Department, a testament to both his tireless work ethic and his commitment to his community.

After all, Bob was affiliated with a number of local institutions, including the Robinson First Christian Church, where he was a longtime member. His service record continued as he belonged to both the Robinson American Legion Post #69 and the Robinson VFW Post #4549, underscoring his deep love for his country and fellow veterans.

His adventurous side led him and his wife, Jean, to travel all over, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Back home, they both enjoyed playing golf and were members of the Oak Glen Golf Course. His love of the sport was undimmed even in the twilight of his life, as he was often seen walking the course well into his 90s.

Anyone who knew Bob could attest that he was a true lover of life. Described by many who knew him as genuine and caring, he was an easygoing individual who made friends wherever he went. He was, at heart, a simple man with an extraordinary life, a testament to the remarkable impact one person can have. His courage, friendliness, and adventurous spirit will forever live in the hearts of those he left behind.

Bob married Virginia "Jean" (Fenrich) Davis on October 12, 1947, and she preceded him in death on May 8, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Herbert & Faye (Howard) Davis, an infant sister, and his brother, Herbert F. Davis. His legacy is carried on by his sister, Barbara Fischer of Chesterhill, OH, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob also leaves behind several good friends who want to thank the staff at Timbercreek Village for all the care they have shown him over the last several years.

It was Bob's wish to be cremated without a local service, and his remains are to be buried back home in Ohio. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of local arrangements.
