Robert Edward “Ed” Johnson, age 68, of Mt. Sterling, IL, formerly of Robinson, IL, passed away at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Heritage Health, Therapy & Senior Care in Mt. Sterling. He was born February 28, 1950 in Crawford County, IL, the son of Herman Edward and Methel June Dunlap Johnson. He was a member of the Robinson High School Class of 1968 and would go on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Back home, Ed went to work for the Jacksonville Development Center in Jacksonville and later worked for the Mental Health Center of Western Illinois in Mt. Sterling, where he was employed for several years. Ed was a true lover of nature who could often be found hunting and fishing and knew every fishing hole in the Embarras and North Fork. He also enjoyed sporting events and was a well-known St. Louis Cardinals baseball and St. Louis Blues hockey fan. Survivors include his best friend and loving companion of 21 years, Carolyn Pulse (Mt. Sterling, IL); his children, Brian Edward Johnson (Robinson, IL), Christina Grunden (Marengo, IN), and Ronda Goldman (English, IN); his brother & sister-in-law, Dave & Martha Johnson (Annapolis, IL); his two sisters, Doris Johnson (Effingham, IL) and Susan McDaniel (Robinson, IL); as well as several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his daughter, Shannon Brown. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 16th at the Robinson New Cemetery with Bro. Rick Catt officiating. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of local arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Ed Johnson memorial fund, with checks made payable to “Carolyn Pulse”. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery and funeral home.
