Robert David "Bob" Rice Ii

Robert David "Bob" Rice, II, 56, of Sainte Marie, IL, passed away on December 8, 2024, at his home. Born on August 7, 1968, in Robinson, IL, Bob grew up at West Lake, where he first developed his love for the outdoors and his reputation for mischief first took root. A graduate of Robinson High School’s Class of 1987, Bob worked as an operator at Newton Power Station for over 30 years and was a member of IBEW Local 702. Most recently, his career journey led him to Hershey.

Bob was a simple man with a larger-than-life personality. Racing was his passion—whether it was dirt bikes, motocross, or modified stock cars, he thrived on speed and adventure, often alongside his son, Derek. He was an outdoorsman through and through, happiest when hunting quail, raising champion hunting dogs (his favorite being Sissy), or fishing in rivers, ponds, and Florida’s sunny waters. His catfish cooking was legendary—simply put, no one could top it.

An act-first, think-later, ask-for-forgiveness-not-permission type of guy, Bob lived with a stubborn streak and a bold heart. He was fiercely independent, yet his softer side shone through in his generosity and love for his family, especially his grandson, Waylon, and his nephew, Noah. Time on the family farm, riding four-wheelers or just soaking in the quiet outdoors, was where he found peace.

Bob Rice lived life on his terms, his 56 years full of fun-loving adventure, laughter, and love. He will be remembered as a man who made his own rules, loved fiercely in his own way, and left a legacy of joy, stories, and memories for those who knew him.

Bob is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Derek & Stacie Rice; his daughter, Jenna Rice; his grandson, Waylon D. Rice; his parents, Robert David "George" & Beth D. (Gower) Rice; his brother & sister-in-law, Aaron & Megan Rice; his nephew, Noah Rice; and by many cousins and extended family members.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor J.D. Branson officiating. Burial will be in the Jones Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to "The First Step" in Robinson, whose mission is to provide a safe and secure way to help those in need. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
