Robert B. Mcconnell

Robert B. McConnell, 85 of Robinson, died at 11:55 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at his home after an extended illness. He was born September 4, 1922 in Robinson, the son of Herman R. McConnell and Blanche Churchill McConnell. Bob served in the U. S. Air Force as a navigator, and retired after 40 years of service as a Major. He worked in the U. S. Post Office in Robinson as a city mail carrier, a rural mail carrier and in the office as a clerk. He was a member of the U. S. Mail Carriers Association, the Retired Officers Association, a Charter member of the Oak Glen Golf Course, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Robinson First United Methodist Church. He married Lois M. Abraham Elliott on July 25, 1973 and she survives. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Kathryn McConnell, Palestine; his daughter-in-law, Jane Elliott; 4 grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Michael Elliott II and Angie Elliott, Robinson, Amy and Ron Goodwin, Robinson, Matt and Michelle Elliott, Martinsville, IN, Beth and John Santo, Los Angeles, CA; 9 great grandchildren; 2 nephews and their spouses, Kevin and Sue McConnell, Robinson, and Kent and Sandy McConnell, Tasmania, Australia. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-son, Dr. Michael W. Elliott. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 10th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson with Rev. Max Borah in charge. Burial is in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, rural Annapolis. Visitation will be Friday, May 9th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Crawford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary with envelopes at the funeral home. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Scott Air Force Base Honor Guard.
