Robert Allen Myer, 70, of Robinson, IL, died January 7, 2022, in the comfort of his home. He was born May 3, 1951, in Robinson, the son of Henry & Daisy (Renchen) Myer. A lifelong resident of Robinson, he was a 1969 graduate of Robinson High School. Seeing as his father was the road commissioner, a young Robert was able to find work with the Robinson Township as an equipment operator. He would spend his entire 44-year career with the Township before retiring at the age of 64.. Away from work, chances were that this outdoorsman was out enjoying God's creation. In fact, it could be said that as a young man, he found life in the thrill of the hunt and also enjoyed that special kind of peace that only comes with a rod and reel in hand. When he was younger, he made many a trip on his motorcycle, and in so doing, was able to take in the beauty of the Smoky Mountains and Colorado, among other destinations. As the years went by, he took more and more pride in his yard and was even known to mow his daughter & son-in-law's lawn if it wasn't up to his (high) standard! In fact, he often invested himself into their projects, lending a helping hand wherever he could and providing advice where he saw fit. This speaks to the care and concern he had for his family, as it was evident that his heart beat for them, especially his grandkids. Those who knew him best will have known that Robert enjoyed searching for treasures from years past. As a young man, he hunted for Native American artifacts and was able to amass not a small collection of arrowheads! He also had a passion for antiquing and was particularly enamored with uranium glass. What was Robert Myer if not something of an "antique" himself? After all, the way he lived his life pointed to the values of days gone by. He lived an honest life filled with integrity and honor. May we who are left behind keep to these same values, letting his legacy live on within us for as long as we live. He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Stephanie & Rick VanSchoyck; by his grandchildren, Chance Love and MacKenzie Love; by his brothers & sisters-in-law, Larry & Ruby Myer and Ronnie & Brenda Myer; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Daisy Myer; by his maternal grandparents, Ralph & Stella Renchen; by his paternal grandparents, Parmer & May Myer; and by his sister & brother-in-law, Loma & Don McCoy and his very special nephew, Mark McCoy. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 13th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will immediately follow and be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, with Bro. Joe Griffith officiating. Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery.
