Robbie "Jo" Hoalt

January 17, 1931 — June 25, 2021

Robbie "Jo" Hoalt, 90, of Flat Rock, IL, died on June 25, 2021, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. She was born January 17, 1931, in Madisonville, KY, the daughter of Ruth (Poole) Phillips. She and her family eventually moved to Vincennes, IN, before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Ivan Hoalt. They were wed on June 25, 1949, and enjoyed exactly 72 years of loving companionship. Much of her life was dedicated to her family and tending to her home. In fact, it could be said that she was a fastidious housekeeper. She kept everything meticulously clean and organized, both in their home and in their camper. The Hoalt family would spend countless hours together camping at locations like Sullivan Lake, and these were times Jo truly cherished. Back home, she was known to exercise her God-given talents in the kitchen, whipping up some of the most delicious apple pies, homemade noodles, and Christmas cookies you'd ever get the chance to enjoy. Her family members weren't the only beneficiaries of her culinary skills, as she also cooked for the Flat Rock Grade School for a time. Here, she worked in a number of other capacities as well, and in the process, made an impact in the lives of many area children. Though Jo wasn't afraid of hard work, she knew how to enjoy herself as well. For a time, she found a creative outlet in painting and was able to create works of art that her family will be able to cherish for years to come. They will also treasure memories of times spent playing euchre and dominoes alongside Jo. Though she enjoyed playing these games, it was evident that what she savored was the company of her loved ones. She was a constant companion to Ivan; a steadfast source of support to her boys; a cheerleader and champion to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and the most honest friend you'd have the good fortune to know. Though this spitfire of a woman could be more than a little headstrong at times, it was evident that she loved with every fiber of her being. Though she was a longtime and active member of the Flat Rock United Methodist Church, it was the love she poured out that bore witness to her faith, a faith that has now been made sight. She is survived by her husband, Ivan Hoalt; by her son & daughter-in-law, Jon & Jackie Hoalt; by her grandchildren & their families, Johnna & Jacob Jones and their son, Ethan Jones, and Jake & Danielle Hoalt and their son expected in July. She is also survived by a number of special family members and friends: her niece, Linda & Jerry Seitzinger; cousins, Bob & Kathy Vaughn, Diane & Roger Poole; as well as her dear friends, Wilfred & Lavene Maxwell and Richard Wesley. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Phillips; by her son, Steven Hoalt; by her brother, Don Satterfield; by two aunts, Nell Hill and Corrine Henderson; by her uncle, Jim Poole; and by her special friends, Ida Fox and Joyce Wesley. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. (CST) on Wednesday, June 30th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock, IL. Funeral services will immediately follow and will be held at 12:00 p.m. (CST) on Wednesday with Pastor J.D. Branson officiating. Cremation will follow, and burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the "Flat Rock United Methodist Church", with envelopes available at the funeral home.
