Richard O. Thompson, 81 of Robinson, IL, died at 7:00 a.m. Friday, February 12, 2010 at United Methodist Village North Campus, Lawrenceville, IL. He was born March 23, 1928 in LaMotte Township, Crawford County, IL, the son of Walter Thompson and Bess Bright Thompson. He graduated from the Flat Rock High School in 1948 and served in the U. S. Army from 1948 to 1952. He retired from the Boilermakers in Kansas City, KS. He was a member of the Oblong American Legion Post #219.Richard married Norma Lee Wilsey on December 4, 1952 and she survives. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard G. and Gretchen Thompson, Macon, IL; 5 grandchildren, Riki and her husband Matt Norton, Decatur, Dustin Thompson, Robinson, Nathan Bricker and his wife Jessica, Girard, NC, Erin and husband Jay Gaines, Fayetteville, NC, Tim Bricker, Macon; 4 great grandchildren, Codi Norton, Kaleb Norton, Kelsie Thompson, Travis Thompson; 3 step great grandchildren, Lilly Bricker, Kevin Bricker, and Ava Gaines; 2 sisters, Bernice Mundhenk, Robinson, Elizabeth Clutts, Lawrenceville; his brother, Byrl Thompson, Robinson; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, Gene, Harold, Howard, Charles, and John Thompson; and 1 sister, Shelene Carlson.There will be cremation with no services at this time. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Jones Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. The Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Village North Campus, the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
