Richard Dunlap

December 11, 1933 — August 20, 2020

Richard Dunlap, 86, of Robinson, IL, died August 20, 2020, at Cotillion Ridge in Robinson. He was born December 11, 1933, in Hammond, IL, the son of Virgil & Vivienne Traxler Dunlap, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Duane V. Dunlap (KIA - Korea) and Robert E. "Bob" Dunlap; by his sisters-in-law, Peggy Dunlap and Lucille Dunlap; and by his son-in-law, Steven Dickerson. He married Nancy Minnick on May 18, 1963, and she survives. He is also survived by his children & their spouses, Barbara Dickerson, Richard Brian & Maribeth Dunlap, Becky Dunlap, and Justin & Jessica Dunlap; by his grandchildren, Jason Dickerson, Jana Dickerson, Addyson Harrington, Landyn Dunlap, Hudson Dunlap, and Gannon Dunlap; by his great-grandchildren, Carleigh, Kaleb, Emily, and Kasey; by his brother, Clifford Dunlap; as well as several nieces and nephews. Richard grew up in southern Crawford County and attended school in Flat Rock before graduating from high school in Oblong. He found work with L.S. Heath before he was drafted to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Back home, he got on with Buckeye Pipeline, where he would stay over the next 30 years before retiring in 1996. Away from work, chances were that Richard was outdoors, be that fishing on the family farm or mowing his property. He was also known to tinker on his mower in the seclusion of his garage. As the years went by, he found more and more enjoyment in watching Westerns, and was a fan of John Wayne movies in particular. He was also a NASCAR fan, and he spent years following Tony Stewart. His family will long cherish the tales told by this master storyteller. His story continues to be told through the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. PLEASE NOTE THAT, DUE TO COVID-19 MANDATES PASSED BY THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, SOCIAL DISTANCING MEASURES WILL BE IN FORCE, AND IT WILL BE REQUIRED THAT ALL ATTENDEES WEAR FACE COVERINGS.
