Richard “Dick” Allen Brown, 80, of Hutsonville, IL died at 1:46 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the comfort of his home. He was born on February 5, 1938 in Vincennes, IN, the son of Claude Allen Brown & Etta Irene (Robinson) Brown, both of whom preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Edward Brown and by his sisters, Patricia Goodwin and Stella Moore. He married Elizabeth Coy on January 21, 1961, and she survives. He is also survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Jason & Tina Brown (West Union, IL); by his daughters & sons-in-law, Teresa & John Riggs (Robinson, IL) and Lisa & Dennis Brown (St. Francisville,IL); by his grandchildren, Mikki & Brandon Breidenbaugh, Natalie & Josh Carie, Daniel Buchanan & fiancée Audrey Hays, and Josh & Amber Riggs; by 6 great-grandchildren; by his sister, Sharon Peach; as well as several nieces and nephews. Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Back home, he worked for a number of local businesses, among them, the Knox County Hatchery, Hamilton Tire, and Brown Shoe Factory, all before becoming a truck driver. Over the next 35 years, he drove over a million accident-free miles for several businesses before retiring from Signal Delivery in Evansville, IN in the mid-1990s. Off the road, he put his carpentry skills to good use, having flipped countless houses alongside Liz. At home, Dick could often be found working in his yard and garden and was known to grow the biggest sweet potatoes you’d ever lay eyes on. An outdoorsman through and through, he enjoyed picking berries and was also an avid mushroom hunter, going as far as picking 800 in one season! He wasn’t afraid of hard work and did his best to ensure that his beloved family never went without. It was Dick’s wish to be cremated with a private burial at a later date. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
