Richard Carlyle Hartbank, a man of loving spirit and unwavering passion, passed away on April 7, 2023, at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, IN. Born on April 28, 1963, in Decatur, IL, Richard's life was an inspiring testament to the power of selflessness, hard work, and devotion to family. Growing up in Flat Rock and Annapolis, IL, Richard graduated from Hutsonville High School with the Class of 1981. Shortly after, he married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia Goff, on May 4, 1985, in Flat Rock.
Though he explored a number of other jobs, it was evident that Richard Hartbank was born to be a farmhand. He was a dedicated employee of Wampler Farms, contributing much of his time and effort towards the farm's flourishing these past 30 years. Richard's hard work, eternally marked by his permanent farmer's tan, showcased his deep commitment to his profession. His affinity for the outdoors endeared him to activities like mowing, something he found both satisfying and enjoyable. When he wasn't (meticulously) caring for his own property, Richard often lent his expertise to others. Cynthia fondly recalls how he would always start her car in the morning and make sure the windows were clear - a testament to his unwavering commitment to helping those he loved.
He was also deeply committed to his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, Fighting Illini, and Chicago Bears. Whether watching live games, tuning in on television, or listening on the radio, Richard couldn't get enough of his favorite sports teams. Music ignited his soul as well. With a particular fondness for rock music, he spent many joyous hours attending concerts and watching his favorite bands perform live. Though he was generally a quiet and reserved person, you could expect Richard to let loose during both games and concerts!
Though he really did enjoy all these things, nothing brought Richard more happiness than his family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and made every effort to attend their events when he wasn't working. He was known for being both helpful and protective towards his loved ones, always willing to lend a hand with car repairs, yard work, or anything else they needed. As we remember Richard Hartbank, let his life serve as a beacon of motivation and inspiration. His unwavering, selfless dedication to his work, interests, and above all, his family, serves as a shining example of a life well-lived. Richard's loving, passionate spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Our hearts are forever warmed by the memories and everlasting love he bestowed upon those fortunate enough to have spent time in his company.
Richard is survived by his father & step-mother, Robert & Deloris Hartbank (Robinson, IL); his mother & step-father, Janice & Harley Swick (Flat Rock, IL); his loving wife of 37 years, Cynthia Hartbank (Hutsonville, IL); his daughter & son-in-law, Ashley & Jake Hoalt (Robinson, IL); his grandchildren, Deja Hedden and Dickie Hedden (both of West Terre Haute, IN), and Kylar Hoalt and Kainen Hoalt (both of Robinson, IL); as well as his brothers & sisters-in-law, Bobby & Mildred Hartbank (Robinson, IL), Russell Hartbank (Robinson, IL), and Christopher & Mellissa Swick (Bridgeport, IL).
