Richard C. Bumpus

Richard C. Bumpus, 74 of rural West Union, IL, died at 11:47 p.m., Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. He was born July 20, 1934 in Coles County, IL, the son of Neal Bumpus and Mildred Niemeyer Bumpus. He was a life-long farmer in the West Union area and belonged to the Brick United Methodist Church, rural West Union, the West Union Ruritan Club, a former Director of the Martinsville State Bank, a former board member of the Burnside Nursing Home, and a board member and treasurer of the Walnut Prairie Cemetery. He married Reta Thompson on June 20, 1954, and she survives. He is also survived by his 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and his wife Sue of West Union, Stephen of Vandalia, Robert and his fianc Elizabeth of Memphis, TN; his 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothea and Robert Wernz, West Union, Kathryn and George Walsh, Wylie, TX, and Jean and Robert Buckner, Farmersburg, IN; 7 grandchildren, Michael and his wife Tracy Bumpus, Windsor, CO, Jill Bumpus, Johnson City, TN, Rebecca and Aman Morgan, West Union, Bryan Bumpus, Windsor, CO, James Bumpus, Madison, WI, Kyle Bumpus, Fort Bliss, TX, and Wolfgang Strohm, West Union; 3 great grandchildren, David and Adam Morgan and Luke Bumpus. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald Gene Bumpus.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 9th at 10:00 a.m. at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union with Brother Don Russell in charge of services. Burial is in the Walnut Prairie Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday and from 7:30 a.m. to service time on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Walnut Prairie Cemetery with envelopes at the funeral home.
