Rene' J. Thornton, 76 of Robinson, IL, died at 12:10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Crawford County Convalescent Center in Robinson. He was born August 25, 1931 in New York City, NY. He was a construction worker. He served in the U. S. Army in Germany during the Korean War; was a Lifetime Member of the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549; a member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69; the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250; a former member of the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188; and a former member of the Oak Glen Golf Course.He married Barbara Weber September 28, 1993 and she survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Pamela Thornton, Ossining, NY; his son and daughter-in-law, Rene' J. Thornton and Colleen Thornton, Highlands, NJ; 3 step children, Sheri and Lloyd Hasty, Farfield, Iowa, Debbie and Steve Bandy, Findlay, OH, Todd and Gail Weber, Terre Haute, IN; 6 step grandchildren; and 2 step great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Frank and Ida Thornton; and his first wife, Gloria Mangini Thornton on August 14, 1991. Funeral services are Tuesday, May 13th at 2:00 p.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until service time at 2:00 on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Robinson Township Library or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson American Legion Post #69, the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549, the Amvets Post #33, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132.
