Rebecca "Becky" Hunckler, 70, of Robinson, IL, passed away suddenly at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN, on June 28, 2023. Becky was a vibrant, loving, spirited soul and the very epitome of kindness. Born on June 4, 1953, in Robinson, IL, it was here that Becky charted a storied journey of hard work, resilience, and dedication to provide for her family. After raising her children as a stay-at-home mother, she found herself re-entering the workforce in 1993. Displaying remarkable fortitude, Becky began working at Leaf in Robinson, amongst other places, before joining Gemtron in Vincennes, IN, where she spent nearly 20 years. Her enduring efforts saw her rise from a period of personal upheaval to become the backbone of a family she fiercely loved.
Fierce indeed she was, but it was her loving nature that left an indelible impression on all who knew her. Becky's nonjudgmental and affectionate approach to others was a testament to her kind heart. Radiating warmth and sincerity, she easily made friends wherever she went, maintaining connections with her colleagues well into her retirement in 2014. Only in retirement did she trade her position at Gemtron for the role of a landlord, managing her late parents' property. But true to form, Becky enjoyed her retirement years by being surrounded by the family she enriched with her lovingkindness, including her precious granddaughter Alexis, who filled the twilight of her grandmother's life with boundless joy. A spirited connoisseur of the kitchen, Becky also found joy in cooking from scratch. Thanksgiving feasts at her home were an explosion of joyous celebration, complete with tantalizing, homecooked favorites like her famous 'Aunt Beck's Dip' and homemade noodles that sent taste buds into blissful surrender. Her passion for food spilled over into her passion for cultivation, highlighted by her unfailingly productive garden.
Becky's unassuming nature belied a fiery spirit and a readiness to assert herself whenever necessary. This feisty energy, blended with her inherent goodness, painted the portrait of a woman who embodied strength, resilience, and love. Becky's authenticity shone through in her interactions, making her company refreshing and welcoming. Beyond her love for people, Becky also showered her affection on animals, caring for neighborhood cats and several dogs over the course of her 70 years. Notably, her cats, Marissa and Kiki and her dog Mason held special places in her heart. Described as a "small woman with a big heart", her size did little justice to her enormous capacity to love, to give, and to breathe life into her environment. She was a testament to the phrase, "good things come in small packages."
The world indeed lost a precious gem on June 28, 2023, and Becky's loving and vibrant legacy will live on, strengthening and inspiring us all. After all, to know Becky Hunckler was indeed to know a good person - kind, honest, and generous, yes - but, above all else, she was simply good.
Becky married Daniel Hunckler on July 16, 2005, who survives her in this life. Her legacy also lives on through her beloved children & their spouses - Marnie & Phil Inboden and Steven Fancil & Joshua FitzHenry, and her cherished granddaughter, Alexis Inboden. She leaves behind her beloved brother, Glenn Lorance, and her sisters, Dana Watwood and Martha Gore, along with numerous adoring nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn E. Lorance Sr & Lola Ruth (Dunlap) Lorance, and her sisters, Brenda (in infancy) and Loretta.
