Ray Wells, 80, of West York, died at 8:40 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2018 in the comfort of his home. He was born on November 27, 1937 in Roodhouse, IL, the seventh child of Irvin Wells & Ruth (Cowhick) Wells’ eleven children. They both preceded him in death. He married Marilyn Evans on November 1, 1957, and they were happily married for 60 years, and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Steve & Tonya Wells (Scott Depot, WV), Roger & Janet Wells (West York, IL), Jerry & Charlene Wells (Richmond, KY), and Randall & Shannon Wells (Hutsonville, IL); and by 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Ray grew up in Roodhouse, IL and was a 1955 graduate of Roodhouse High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Out of the service, he made himself useful as a jack-of-all-trades and was able to do a bit of anything with his hands and a little elbow grease. A man of faith, he dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel and was a pastor for 12 years. In recent years, he was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church. Ray’s humor and honesty will long be remembered by all who knew him. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 28th at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in West York, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church with Pastor Will Bynum officiating alongside Ray’s family. The Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union is in charge of arrangements.
