Phyllis Jean Goodwin

November 10, 1932 — May 27, 2024

Phyllis Jean Goodwin, 91, of Robinson, IL, passed away on May 27, 2024. She was born on November 10, 1932, at home in Robinson, the daughter of Ancile & Ruby (Wilson) Wieman. When she was five, they moved to the farm just south of Marathon, and there she helped her parents with their milk, cattle, chicken, fruit, and vegetable routes. She also worked at the Index, General Telephone Company, a tax office in the summer, and worked in hand packing at L.S. Heath in the fall. She graduated from Robinson High School in 1950.

On September 20, 1952, she married Hal Keith Goodwin at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, where she attended most of her life. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #69 Auxiliary, Elks Auxiliary, and the Crawford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She held offices in all of these clubs. She belonged to the Crawford County Home Extension, lent a helping hand with Habitat for Humanity, and was active with the Robinson Area Food Pantry. A member of the Robinson Saddle Club, she, along with her brother, Joe, and their dad, showed their horses all around the area. She also loved to go camping and boot-kicking and enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, and simply helping people.

In 1968, she took over driving the Star Route. In the mornings, she hauled mail to eight post offices and, in the evenings, hauled packages back to Robinson. She also had a regular mail route, which she did for 18 years, rain or shine. At this time, her husband retired. She retired in 1989, and the Goodwins moved down to the Lake of the Ozarks, where they both worked at a resort golf course before moving back to Robinson after a few years.

She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Canda Lee Goodwin & Danny Braden, and by her brother & sister-in-law, Jerry Joe & Cookie Wieman. She is also survived by her former sisters-in-law, Susie Oakley (and her children), Julie and Randy (and their children)

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ancile Wieman on May 9th, 1980 and Ruby Wieman on September 29, 1989; her husband, Hal Keith Goodwin on February 25, 1991; and her son, Michael Keith Goodwin on June 4, 2007.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5th, at the Oblong Cemetery, with Rev. David Ducommon officiating. Memorials may be made to either the "Robinson Area Food Pantry" or to "Habitat for Humanity", and memorial envelopes will be available at the cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
