Willard O. 'Pete' Weger, 88 of rural Robinson, IL, died at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, April 03, 2008 at the extended care unit of Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson. He was born March 6, 1920 in Honey Creek Township, Crawford County, IL, the son of Elmer Weger and Zelma A. Goff Weger.Pete married Ruth I. Weger on July 14, 1943 and she survives. He is also survived by 5 daughters and their spouses, Betty and Ron Mendenhall, Palestine, Doris and Terry Ramsey, Robinson, Judy Miller, Robinson, Brenda and Jim Rush, Fairfield, Jackie and Donnie Plew, Hutsonville; 2 sons, Gene Weger and his wife, Bonnie, Annapolis, Alan Weger and his finacee, Teresa Connour, Taylorville; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Daisy Brown, Robinson, and Louise Wilt, Trimble; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sons, Richard Glen Weger and Harold Eugene Weger; 3 sisters, Eva Purcell, Gladys Smith, and Mary Weger in infancy; and 2 brothers, James J. Weger and Dean Weger.Pete served in the U. S. Army during WWII in Battery 'C' of the 67th Armored Battalion. He served in Normandy at Utah Beach where he received the 'Freedom Medal' from France, and in Northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland, the 'Battle of the Bulge', and in Central Europe. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Europe.He is a lifetime member of the D. A. V., the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Pastor Charles Rains is in charge of services. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7th. Memorials may be made to the Harold Weger Children’s Education Fund at the First National Bank of Olney, Robinson Branch, with envelopes at the funeral home.Military graveside honors will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, the Amvets Post #33, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132.
