Peg Butler, 88, of Abilene, TX, formerly of Robinson, IL, died January 31, 2021, in Abilene. She was born February 26, 1932, in Robinson, IL, the daughter of Sylvan Sylvester Wheeler & Lula Pearl (Tyhurst) Wheeler, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Lloyd Butler on November 26, 1960, and he preceded her in death on July 12, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her step-son, Ricky Butler, and by her brothers, Forrest Wheeler and Richard Wheeler. She is survived by her children, Michael & Linda Mikeworth (Abilene, TX) and Joanne Lindstrom (Chicago, IL); by her grandchildren, Rachel & Rollan Masterson (Savoy, TX), Nathan & Gretta Mikeworth (Amarillo, TX), Stephanie & Lynn Lovell (Abilene, TX); by 5 great-grandchildren; by her brother, William “Bill” Wheeler (Archer, FL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Peg was born and raised in Robinson and was a 1950 graduate of Robinson High School. She would eventually become the office manager at CIPS, a job she enjoyed and was, by all accounts, well-suited for. Even though she worked full-time, she always made time for her church and her children. They will remember their mother’s hospitality with fondness, as hers was a dinner table that would extend to sit anyone within eyeshot of her famous cinnamon rolls or peanut butter pie. In other words, if you left her house hungry, it was your own fault! After retiring from CIPS after 35 years of dedicated service, Peg refused to let dust settle. Countless hours were spent crafting afghans for her beloved family and numerous friends. She also remained active at the Crawford County Christian Center (4Cs), where she helped in a number of “behind the scenes” capacities. It was evident in the way she gave of herself that she recognized that her life was not her own. Hers was a light that shined bright before others, and because of this, she glorified her Heavenly Father. We who are left behind are grateful to have been given a small glimpse of Jesus in the life of Peg Butler and find peace in knowing that, by the grace of God, her life will know no end. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Under Phase 4 Mitigations, public attendance is allowed, but only up to 50 attendees at a time. Thusly, social distancing measures will be in place, and it will be required that all visitors wear face coverings while in the building. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 5th, at the Crawford County Christian Center (211 E Main St, Robinson, IL), with Pastor Ray Piersall officiating. During the service, there will be an opportunity for family and friends to share their favorite memories of Peg. A live stream of her service can be viewed on Goodwine Funeral Homes' Facebook page or by going to https://www.goodwinefuneralhomes.com/live-stream/live-stream . Memorial donations may be made to the “Oblong Children's Christian Home”, with envelopes available at the funeral home and church. Peg will be laid to rest in the Robinson New Cemetery.
