Paul “Pap” Ervin, Sr., 73, of Palestine died at 10:18 p.m. EST, on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. Paul was born on September 14, 1946 in Vincennes, IN, the son of Bertie Ervin and Mable Hitt Ervin, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, George and Dean Ervin. He married Erleen Ramsey on August 31, 1968 and she survives. Also surviving are his 2 children, Paul Jr. and Cherlyn Ervin of Marshall, IL and Paula “Polly” Weaver and John Cogswell of Palestine; his 4 grandchildren, CJ Weaver and his fiancé Dannica Waggoner of Palestine, Katie and Allen Wood of Mt. Carmel, IL, Jessie Weaver of Robinson and Candi Weaver and her fiancé Bret Payne of Linton, IN; 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Paul served his country as a Marine for two years, spending 13 months in Vietnam during the war. In his later years, he drove trucks for Lawrence Gravel and Steve Mitchell. He attended Pilgrim Holiness Church in Palestine. A time of visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 1st at the Pilgrim Holiness Church, rural Palestine. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Paul Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pilgrim Holiness Annex Fund. Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of the arrangements.
