Paul Adam Griffin

May 9, 1991 — December 17, 2024

Paul Adam Griffin, 33, of Nashville, TN, formerly of Oblong, IL, passed away unexpectedly on December 17, 2024, at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. Though his time with us feels far too brief, Paul filled every moment with humor, kindness, and a deep love for the people in his life.

Born on May 9, 1991, in Robinson, IL, he grew up in Oblong, where his days were filled with warmth, laughter, and a few unforgettable adventures. Even as a kindergartener, Paul's big heart and sense of humor were on full display. He was so excited to see his Uncle Joe, just a few years older than him, on the playground that he gleefully called out, "Uncle Joe!" and asked for a push on the swing. His childhood was sprinkled with quirks, like the time his mom unknowingly sent him to school with a broken collarbone—or even appendicitis—proving that Paul had both a high tolerance for pain and an unbeatable spirit.

Born with a vivid imagination, he would read by flashlight under the covers, long after bedtime. Whether it was Harry Potter , The Lord of the Rings , or the works of Edgar Allan Poe, Paul's love for literature became a lifelong passion. Sundays were often reserved for book club discussions with his grandma about The Lord of the Rings , a cherished tradition that brought generations together through stories of courage and friendship.

Paul's childhood also revealed his strong sense of justice and protectiveness. When his younger sister was bullied, he didn't hesitate to step in and draw a line in the sand, standing up for her in his quiet, determined way. Paul graduated from Oblong High School in the Class of 2009, leaving his mark in the school choir and as an active, four-year member of the FFA, where he served as an officer.

Paul's professional journey began at the age of 16 when he landed his first job at Taco Bell. He continued in this role when he and his mom moved to Nashville in 2013, later exploring other opportunities, including working as a barback, host, and truck loader, before returning to Taco Bell just this past year. No matter where he was employed, his genuine care for others left a lasting impression on everyone he worked with.

A true sci-fi enthusiast, Paul loved Star Wars , Doctor Who , and all things fantasy. He enjoyed going to the theater, especially Broadway musicals like Wicked and Moulin Rouge . Paul also had an eclectic taste in music, ranging from Joe Diffie to Taylor Swift to Metallica. Thursday nights were reserved for "Singo" with his mom, Jennifer—proof that she wasn't just his parent but his best friend and greatest cheerleader. Together, they celebrated life’s milestones, laughed at inside jokes, and created memories that will be cherished forever.

Paul's kindness was his superpower. Friends knew they could call him at any hour, and he'd show up without hesitation. When someone was in need, he never hesitated to share what he had—whether that meant giving a ride, offering a place to stay, or simply listening without judgment. Paul's love for life was as big as his love for people, and that love was returned tenfold by everyone lucky enough to know him.

He is survived by his mother, Jennifer Faye Griffin of Nashville, TN; his brother, Alex Griffin of Pearland, TX; his sister, Kristina Griffin of Robinson, IL; his grandparents, John & Joyce Griffin of Willow Hill, IL, Ruth Allen & partner Lew Danielli of Snohomish, WA, and Ethan & Janet Allen of Bothell, WA; his aunts & uncles, Rebecca & Charles Greene of WA, Jessica & Ken Burgard of Washington, IL, Jacob & Maricar Griffin of Newton, IL, and Joseph Griffin of Willow Hill, IL; and countless other family members and friends who adored him. He was preceded in death by his father, John "Corndog" Griffin; his great-grandparents, Lloyd & Martha Wampler and Janet Harris; his uncle, James Aaron Griffin; and many other cherished relatives.
