Patricia "Pat" Harris, 81, of rural Flat Rock, IL, died January 2, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. She was born November 11, 1940, in Robinson, IL, the daughter of Ranliegh & Ruth (Yeager) Bayne, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Jack Edward Harris on June 15, 1957, and he preceded her in death on November 24, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jack Dwayne Harris, and by her siblings, Roland Bayne, Nancy Bayne, and Richard Bayne. She is survived by her son, Chuck Harris; by her grandchildren, Celeste Jackson, Laura Harris, Victor Esarey, Shanna Love, Brandi & Brandt Duggins, and Charleigh & Zach Danks; by her great-grandchildren, Keisha Clay, Cameron Baud, Michelle Rogers, Candace Harris, Lane Jackson, Antonio Escobedo, Lincoln Duggins, and Carter Duggins; by her former daughters-in-law, Tina Harris and Debbie Smith; by her sister, Mary Jo Cafin; by her brothers, Randy Bayne and Joe Bayne; as well as several nieces and nephews. Having lost her father at a young age, Pat dedicated much of her youth to caring for her siblings. These formative years left a lasting impact on her, as she always made every effort to ensure her loved ones would never go without. She worked hard to provide for her family, both at L.S. Heath (Hershey), where she was a staple for 45 productive years, and at Ridgeview, where she finally ended her career after 10 years of service. These jobs ensured that her grandkids had plenty of gifts to open, come Christmastime. It was apparent that her grandchildren brought life to her living. She was known to bring them along on her many trips and vacations, and even if they stayed home, you better believe that she'd come back bearing gifts for them! They will fondly remember this tough old bird's affinity for Pepsi and filterless Pall-Malls, which were daily companions for most of her 81 years. Those closest to Pat will also recall her love of music. She was quite the Elvis fan and was, by all accounts, enamored with Wayne Newton. In fact, she had the opportunity to watch him live in Las Vegas, where she was also able to play the slots to her heart's content. Back home, she could often be found nestled up to a Danielle Steel or John Grisham book, and these provided her with countless hours of quiet enjoyment. Though you'd never want to get on her bad side, those of us fortunate enough to have been loved by Pat Harris could never forget her heartfelt generosity, nor the vigor with which she lived her life. After all, she was a one-of-a-kind soul and will live on in our hearts forever. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will immediately follow and be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery. Memorials may be made to an organization near and dear to Pat's heart: "St. Jude Children's Research Hospital". Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
